School District No. 59 (PRS) has a strong
belief in professional development, meeting students where they are, and
providing a rich meaningful experience for all learners.
Education Assistants participate in the
implementation of individual programs for students in the areas of:
academic/intellectual, social/emotional, behaviour, and independence in an
inclusive environment. An Education Assistant Diploma is desired; however
lesser qualified applicants may be considered.
Successful applicants will posses a variety
of skills, including:
- Ability to work effectively
with a full range of students, including students with special needs, utilizing
specific skills and training.
- Ability to provide educational
and functional support at k-12 levels
- The ability to use patience,
tolerance and understanding in building and maintaining rapport with students.
- Strong communication skills
while working collaboratively with teachers, administrators and colleagues
- Ability to perform physical
activities, such as lifting, transferring and assisting students in a variety
of activities and providing personal care as necessary.
SD 59 offers a comprehensive compensation
package with includes extended health and dental benefits, life insurance, and pension
plan. Rate of pay as casual is $19.63/hour plus vacation percentage starting at
4%. Rate of pay for temporary and regular positions is $26.03/hour.

Description: |
Reporting to the Superintendent, or
designate, the Feeding Futures Coordinator facilitates the implementation of
the Feeding Futures School Food Program. Working closely with schools and
community partners, this position ensures that all students facing food
insecurity have access to the necessary nutrition to be healthy and ready to
learn. This includes coordinating and/or developing food programs and services
to provide grab and go, breakfast, lunch and snack options for our schools, and
ensuring respect, equity and dignity for all. This position also supports the
District in developing communication plans, policies and procedures to ensure
schools, staff, volunteers, families and/or other entities providing food
services comply with legal and regulatory requirements.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Works in collaboration with schools, District partners,
families, Indigenous Rights Holders, government departments, non-profits,
public and private organizations, etc.
- Administers the Districts food program and services, including
budgets, contracts, grant applications, partnerships and reporting; and
identifies opportunities for donations and funding.
- Conducts an annual review of the District’s food program and
services, in consultation with schools, community partners, families and
students as needed.
- Creates action plans for the delivery and execution of the
Districts food program and services, including food source, type, delivery
method, number of students fed, partnerships, etc.
- Ensures the Districts food program and services are well
communicated to schools, families and students, and infrastructure is in
place to access.
- Conducts outreach activities by connecting schools with
referrals and resources to educate families of community programs and
services that support nutrition.
- Coordinates delivery of food to students through school
administrators, staff and volunteers. High school programs may require
coordination with teachers engaged in cafeteria and culinary programs.
- Attends community meetings as required to identify practical
and relevant ways the District can participate in community food security
initiatives.
- Maintains and prepares reporting for the District and the
Ministry of Education and Child Care as required.
- Ensures food premises regulations, BC Ministry of Education
Guidelines for Food and Beverage Sales in BC Schools, Northern Health Food
Safety, WorkSafe BC and any other applicable laws or regulations are
adhered to.
- Additional responsibilities may be assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience writing grant applications and implementation of
funding arrangements.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication
skills with the ability to build relationships with a diversity of people.
- Ability to work collaboratively with external agencies and all
levels of school district leadership.
- Effective organizational, time management, and problem-solving
skills.
- Strong project management skills and the ability to manage
multiple programs and initiatives.
- Proficiency using Microsoft Office programs including Word,
Excel, SharePoint, Teams, and Outlook.
- Demonstration of competencies with particular attention to
relationships, community and culture, collaboration and teamwork, and
resource management.
Lesser qualified individuals may be
considered.
